Riga Country Retreat has previously inspired, artists, photographers, writers, poets and scientists, specifically paleantologists and entomologists with several publications and some materials archived at the Melbourne Museum. Riga Country Retreat is within 8-10 minutes of the following. A shuttle bus to the Mt Buller ski fields and the newly establishing rail trail. You can ride your bike along quiet country lanes to the rail trail. Bushwalking at Samaria State Park, the Strathbogie Ranges and further a field, Powers Lookout , Mt Stirling, the Great Dividing Range as well as the near by Kelly Tree. Fishing/ kayaking/other water sports are at Lake Nillahcoote and a little further Lake Eildon with plenty of room for your boat. Wineries and eateries in Mansfield and little further, perhaps 20 minutes to the various horse trail riding operators.

Directions

Only 8 minutes drive from Mansfield on the Midland Highway. An easy 1hr drive to Mt Buller ( a bus run from Mansfield is available in winter to the snowfields). An 8minute drive to the Barjarg Store and 40 minutes to Benalla and the Hume Highway. Lake Nillahcootie foreshore is only 15 minutes away for boating or fishing.
