Located amidst the magical waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Orpheus is nestled in a sheltered bay of a National Park Island. Positioned 80 kilometres north of Townsville and 190 kilometres south of Cairns, Orpheus sits in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and is fringed by some of Queensland’s most spectacular coral.
From the moment you board your 30 minute scenic flight transfer over the emerald islands which stud the Coral Sea below; you will begin to feel the burdens of modern life slip away.
Catering for the discerning traveller, Orpheus is a magical tropical isle without the unnecessary formalities. The island atmosphere is relaxed and unspoilt, one we feel best suits a tropical island. Accommodating a maximum of 34 pampered guests at any one time ensures serenity and seclusion reign.
Celebrating a bounty of local, in-season and wholesome ingredients, our Resident Chef prepares a daily changing menu that showcases the riches of the region and dishes which stimulate both the mind and palate. Special dietary requirements are also catered for.
Your nightly tariff includes all meals, complimentary house wines, beers and soft drinks, and an experiential activity each day of your stay e.g. snorkelling, fishing, island cruising etc. Flights to Orpheus Island are not included in the nightly tariff.
Nearby Attractions
There are no forced activities on Orpheus, however there is plenty for you to do! Orpheus’ principal dive and snorkel sites are home to 1,100 of the 1,500 species of fish on the reef, 340 of the 359 varieties of hard corals and one of the region’s largest collections of soft corals. The reef is also a fisherman’s playground as the local waters surrounding Orpheus provide some of the most sought after reef and game fish species in the world. You can also take the helm of your very own motorised dinghy and discover the secluded and unspoilt coves within the local waters surrounding the Lodge. Walk straight off the powder white sand into pellucid blue-green waters, bask in the warm sunshine and enjoy a delicious pre-prepared gourmet picnic hamper on your own private beach. Alternatively, you can opt to do nothing at all – one certainty is that on Orpheus, you will find the perfect sanctuary.
Hotel Policy
If the reservation is cancelled before thirty (30) days prior to the arrival date, the deposit is fully refundable. If the reservation is cancelled within 30 days of the arrival date, an amount equal to one (1) day's stay + flights is not refundable. No refund is available for cancellations or non-utilisation of any services after the stay has commenced. Orpheus Island Resort recommends travel insurance.
